Student Profile: Evelyn Frazier

By: Hope Coleman, Director of Counseling and Academic Resources

In 1 Peter 4:10 the scripture says, “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” For some, this gift comes at birth. For others, this gift is cultivated in their life by circumstances. And for others, this gift is given by the Spirit of God for the good of his kingdom. For Evelyn Frazier, her gift was received in all three of these ways: Her gift is caring for others.

From birth, Evelyn has been in a position to care for others, mostly in her immediate family with a large number of siblings. When Evelyn entered adulthood, she began having children of her own. Her family includes five children with two of them having chronic health conditions that she was forced to learn about in order to take care of them.

As a Christian, Evelyn believes that God has given her a passion to care for others because as she states, “I just love people, and I love taking care of them.”

After raising her children, Evelyn decided it was time to take care of herself. Since she has been caring for people all her life, it only seemed logical to her to become a nurse. She started her nursing school career at a different university before coming to Baptist Health College Little Rock.

Once she was accepted and enrolled at BHCLR, she knew she was in the right place because the prevailing philosophy taught throughout all her courses was to take care of patients holistically –– body, mind, and spirit. This aligned with her beliefs because that is the way she was treated at BHCLR and that is the way she treats others. She treats all her patients like they were her very own family.

Evelyn’s family is very important to her. Her mother is her best friend. Her eight children are what motivate her to do her very best. And one of her brothers has been a significant part of her support system.

Now, Evelyn is joining a new family. Upon graduation, she will be a part of the Baptist Health Extended Care Hospital family. She is very excited to get her hands on those patients because she believes they will be like family to her and they will need her care.

Evelyn is one of the most delightful people you will ever meet. She engages with others naturally and always has a smile on her face. If you are ever up on the 10th floor of BHMC-LR, she will be the one to welcome you at the door, invite you in, and make you feel at home.
