Harrison and Credit Awarded 2024 Sonia Green Scholarship
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Baptist Health College Little Rock (BHCLR) students Markita Harrison, accelerated nursing student from Little Rock, and Alandae’ Credit, practical nursing student from Little Rock, were recently awarded the Sonia Green Scholarship. Both students were honored on Sept. 11.
“Markita is a very good student,” said Dr. Stacy Palmer, accelerated nursing course leader. “She is always actively engaged. Her clinical performance has been described by her clinical faculty as none other than ‘excellent’. She not only engages with her patients, but she also has a gift for getting her peers to engage more. She is kind, caring and always excited to learn. She will be a great asset wherever her career takes her.”
“Alandae’ is focused on learning,” said Dr. Gina Qualls, practical nursing semester leader. “She comes to class and clinical prepared and eager to learn. She seeks out the nurses for additional learning opportunities. She is compassionate, caring and respectful toward her clients and peers. She is always willing to assist others. She will be an asset to any facility she works at.”
The Sonia Green Scholarship was established by Publishing Concepts Inc. to honor the life and legacy of the beloved practical nursing faculty member at BHCLR. Green died tragically in 2012 as a result of a domestic violence incident.
The scholarship is awarded to a second-semester practical nursing student and a second-semester accelerated nursing student. Recipients must be in good standing and graduate from the Little Rock School District, as Green was a graduate from Central High School. Faculty members also provide feedback on the recipient’s performance in the classroom and clinicals, as well as their demonstration of the Baptist Health values. Susan Brown, special projects director for Publishing Concepts, awarded Harrison and Credit the scholarship.
“Students are genuinely touched when they learn the history of Sonia Green and the contributions she made to nursing and her community,” said Dr. Susan Brock, coordinator of the Schools of Nursing. “Having worked alongside Sonia for many years, she would have been very humbled and grateful to Publishing Concepts for making this a reality for students following in her footsteps.”
