Navigating the Admission Process: Five Tips for Getting into Nursing School

So, you want to get into nursing school? We’re here to help you get there. It can be stressful navigating transcripts, entrance exams, and securing the correct prerequisite classes. These five tips will help you put your best foot forward to launch your career in health care.

1. Check the prerequisites for your program.

The first step to navigating the admissions process is to check the prerequisites you need to start your program of study. At Baptist Health College Little Rock (BHCLR), we require students to have nine prerequisite courses before they start the traditional program. Knowing what classes you need to take will help you decide when would be the best time to start your program. We offer two start dates, January and July for both our LPN and RN programs. You are more than welcome to email your unofficial transcripts for the admissions office to review at admissions3@bhclr.edu

2. Rock your entrance exam.

To stand out from one applicant to the next, perform well on your entrance exam. We require students to submit either their ACT or TEAS test scores. Do not take these tests lightly. Study hard and do your best. Did you know students can take their first TEAS test for free at BHCLR? Take advantage of this opportunity here.

3. Complete prerequisites with a high grade.

Complete your prerequisites with a “C” or better the first time. Your entry into nursing school is heavily dependent on your performance in your prerequisite courses. Strive to earn a good grade in those classes to separate yourself from other students. Make the grade!

4. Don’t blow off other classes that aren’t required for your nursing program.

At BHCLR, all transcripts must be submitted from colleges or universities the applicant has attended. The admissions office will also review the grades you have received in other courses as admission is dependent on your academic history. Take those classes seriously as it might be the difference in your admission status.

5. Get organized and complete your file on time.

Although our application only takes five minutes to complete, you must complete your file for admission. This includes turning in your transcripts and test scores. If you are unsure how to secure these documents, reach out to your high school or college registrar. They can direct you in your next steps to getting these documents. Do not wait until the last minute to do this. The sooner the better!
